Leisure day

I stayed up late watching another episode of 'Under the Dome' since Mewthos had decided to nest in my duvet. It was too darling! He had crawled in and under in such a way that only his white framed pink nose was sticking out of the covers and my job was to scratch his chin! Who could ignore or resist that?

Well, I got up around six and let the mippies out - who ran out and right back in while I made my coffee. Sigh. When I finally came outside, they - also finally - started running and exploring.

I washed the third load, which I hadn't done on Sunday. I've put my work pants outside to dry - inside, they won't. All my socks and undies are hanging inside, though.

I absolutely must get the last peas and the tomatoes into the garden today, but I can't really sift through the soil, removing all the roots, so that I can mix it with the potting soil. Not until my index finger has healed. So I'm taking a short-cut: I just dig out the hole, fill that with compost then fill the pots with pure potting soil.

This soil is very different from what I got at Builders, it's definitely got soil mixed in with it. The first tomatoes wilted as soon as I planted them - so I watered generously, even though the pot is now in the sun. I've also moved several of the basil plants into the pots. Now I'm reading up on which herbs best to mix with which of my veggies. Turns out that Nasturtiums are good with squash, since they attract pollinating insects. Oh, and borage, which I don't have. But I do have lots of parsley.

I could use another two pots for my tomatoes, so I've put them next to the fence. If my landlord comes by, I may get their bottoms cut off today. If not, Saturday is also fine. There's some more room in the pot for the plants now left, so it's not urgent.

The re-potted tomato plants are not looking well, so I'm taking a break through the hottest part of the day. I'll move the Basil & Parsley later this afternoon. But what I have done is plant a row of Nasturtiums at the back of the Squash bed. And when I did that, I realised that the ground is awfully dry - tonight I need to water quite thoroughly, make sure that the beds are not just a bit damp but saturated. Again, that will have to wait till later.

I've made myself some toast for lunch. Not very original, I know, but I'm lazy - and somewhat tired. I'm in some kind of mood for some unknown reason. I also had a chocolate, though mostly I'm not very keen on anything sweet lately. I think I'll take a nap and maybe feel better when I wake up again.

Yeah, that didn't help. I don't even want my mippies near me! Not good. Well, I transplanted some of the Parsley - I dislike re-potting plants, you always end up damaging the roots. I think that's why all my plants in the garden aren't getting any bigger. To me it seems like they haven't grown at all since I moved them into the garden! Which is somewhat depressing. Well, they are still alive, so that's something. And I watered everything thoroughly tonight, made sure everything is soaked.

I also thought of doing the dishes today, but with my index finger still raw, I had better not. Good excuse, eh? I took a hot shower, packed my lunch, had ice cream ...

I'm still in a mood, so I think I'll go to bed and hope tomorrow is a better day.
