Yeah, I had nothing to say yesterday. Work, home –
garden disservice had been – cats n kittens. Sleep.
This morning, instead of just the standard shopping, I
determined to hunt down the connectors I needed for my cat furniture. Drove all
the way to the hardware warehouse – as I was wandering around that large
warehouse I got to thinking about the change in service in shops these days.
Nowadays there isn’t any, most shop staff treat customers like we’re a nuisance
– which makes shopping quite unpleasant. But in the past they were usually all
over you, talking you into purchasing items you had no intention of getting –
and making you feel guilty for ‘just browsing’! So – which is better?
Anyway, they didn’t have the connectors I need – which
the website proclaimed to be ‘standard’ available at any hardware. I drove
around half an hour from plumbing to irrigation specialists – nobody has those
connectors! So, I will have to develop a Plan B! Meanwhile my lounge looks like
a plumber’s workshop!
There was a Biltong shop where I had meandered in my
search – so I treated myself! They also had some home-made mulberry jam and
tomato jam. I’m in for a yummy breakfast!
Back at home it is such a beautiful day that I’m drawn
to the garden. Not much to show for it, mostly I cleaned the beds after the
garden disservice. Lovely, eh? Cleaning up after a service?
I did take quite a few photos – there are new flowers
again! The kittens are too lively for photos at the moment, they’re quite
active, exploring their surroundings.
Those bushes only bloom in daylight - but how gloriously they bloom! And look on the right - all 'my' flowers are making their way to reach my neighbour as well!
Same as the lavender ones, aren't these a striking colour?
Another unique Carnation
Even wilting they look like satin!
Interesting clouring on this Cornflower!
Finally beginning to bloom! Definitely not an Iris :)
Remember when this had just been mowed down? Well, the Cosmos is about to start blooming!
This 'weed' is lovely! Behind it my Celery is doing well, as is the tiny Rhubarb in front of the Celery.
The Nasturtiums are trying to take over my vegetable patch! But the Peas are climbing up the fence In front, I harvested some Radishes - just four, but still!
Carnations are showing up everywhere!
Snap-dragon guarding Carnation
A friend from work came for a visit, which is such a
rare occasion, it needs recording. When she first saw my garden she exclaimed “but
it’s so tiny! From the photos I expected much bigger flowers!” which I thought
quite funny! Apparently she was expecting a shoulder-high jungle! Not the
mostly below knee-level flowers! Should I try breeding Triffids? He He (for my
younger readers, google “Day of the Triffids” by John Wyndham 1951 science
fiction novel).
Late afternoon I tackled the rockery. Those trees have
been sprouting like it’s spring or something, so I trimmed them back in line,
pulled weeds out of the rockery, and dissuaded the Tecoma from turning into a
creeper. Then I cleared some more room for the cactus – that tree some eejot
planted there is taking over, and the Hibiscus is also encroaching too much into
its space. So the drum is full!
The cats left the kittens on the bed the whole day –
though they went to cool off on the floor on occasion. They gave me a kind of
resigned look when I came to bed – knowing their sojourn upstairs was now over.
