Lazy Sunday, normal Monday

Yesterday was cold and overcast, quite depressing. I lazed around most of the day, pottering a bit here, attending to Silver there, playing my online game. My neighbour came up to see the kittens, which was a welcome break of the dreary day. I did take some photos, but haven’t uploaded them yet. Maybe tonight.

This morning, on my way to work, I was nearly wiped out! The robot turned green, I put the car in first gear and started crossing the road – when some business van came shooting from the left and missed me by inches! If I hadn’t braked, we’d have collided – and it would have been worst for me! He evidently decided that red means go fast! I got very, very lucky! Thank God!

Today it’s not only overcast but drizzling with occasional rainfall. Work is pretty lame, our site manager is on leave till the end of the month. With the project running towards the end, there isn’t that much left for me to do – except updating the Health & Safety file ... not my favourite task.

The CatCare lady called me back today and we had a lovely chat. Basically, all is well, the only thing I should do is ensure Silver gets high-nutritious food – as I thought; and, of course, they have special food at the vet. I’ve decided to make a turn at the vet’s – also for a chance to discuss kitty-care a bit futher. They don’t need anything right now, but it would be better for my  budget to spread purchases over several months. That way I can incorporate it into my living expenses rather than an additional extravagance.

At the moment I don’t need to go into details with my budget, since my monthly income still exceeds my spending – albeit by a hair’s breadth. I am so tired of having to record every penny spent, so tired of accounting every expense, allocating to budgets, looking where I can shave off a few cents to make ends meet – having had to do that for so long. I sometimes exasperate at my employer for leaving me on such a tight budget when I am such an asset to the business!

Well, I left work early and stopped at the vet’s to get all my silly (and serious) questions answered. We (humans) have a tendency to anthropomorphise our pets – it’s natural in the sense that it gives us a basis for understanding; but it isn’t kind. They are not humans in a funny shape – they are animals. Instead of free will they have only their natural instincts. And we humans, in the course of our lives, override a lot of our natural instincts – sometimes they are taken from us.
Anyway, the basic result of the discussion I had was that mother and babies are doing well, there’s nothing I need to do; I could get some special food for lactating queens which kittens can also eat, once they’re ready – so I got a packet. I also got a deworming tablet for Silver – since she probably hasn’t had any defense against parasites in her life – and she’ll pass it on to the kittens. I had to weigh her, for the correct dosage – and she weighs 4,5 kg. How? I got her to sit on my bathroom scale. How? Well, you know that any good trainer on occasion lets the trainee think they’re in charge? Well, Silver chose that occasion to let me believe I’m in charge! Cool, eh? Well, being given a pill scared her a bit – I’ve never done anything she didn’t like, before. Never had to. But she did swallow it – then scuttled back to her babies. She likes the new cat food, though!
