I think we understand about sleep at night by now, I’m
happy to say. And we’re also on the same page with respect to the indoor litter
box. Now, if only we could get this birth thing behind us, I’d feel much
better!
I had another dream about her kittens last night – for
some strange reason I had to work in another city for a short time, and let my
Ex house-sit so that the cat would be looked after. When I got back, I found
the cat with two half-dead and two dead kittens in the garden, because he’d
tossed her out and got some other woman to stay with him – in my home. Oh, and
he’d started dismantling my car, selling the bits off for cash. Where does my
mind go to find such a lot of unrealistic trash? Strange mind I have, eh?
I spent some time researching e-publishing online, and
found a few local sites that seemed solid at first, but when you look a bit
closer? One site was nice and simple. To the point. Well set-out, logical. Then
you read about the importance of editing – professionally, ensuring no spelling
or grammar mistakes have crept into the manuscript, followed by the importance
of choosing the right font. Yeah, and you see spaces missing after a period and
a font where the ‘i’ looks like an ‘l’. How do such sites attract business? Displaying such incompetence? It’s a bit like
displaying Frankenstein’s Monster to advertise surgical skill, eh?
I’m trying to come up with something for our
electrician, for his birthday. He’ll be back at work on Saturday and I’d like
him to find something on his desk. I was thinking of making a card with a
pop-up cat inside (private joke) and googled Origami Cat – and that’s when it
hit me: cover his desk with Origami cats!
Okay, after having tried it, I think one Origami cat
will have to suffice. I found a free-to-reuse image of ginger cat fur,
stretched it in a Word Doc and printed it – to cut out 15x15cm Origami squares.
The head is quite simple, but the body is giving me some trouble. Well, the end
result turned out quite cute! I added a bubble saying ‘Happy birthday’ cut out
from a post-it and stuck it on.
At work I’m updating the safety file – dull, tedious
work. So in between I’m writing my first admin article. I’m indexing the
document, so I can patch and add on various articles without much scrolling
around. For now I’ll simply stick to a topic of choice.
When I got home, Silver welcomed me then went straight
into her nest. Well, after she had some tinned salmon, of course. Food first,
birds second, fight third – everything else after! I was having second thoughts
about going out, but she’s had me on a string for over a week now, so I decided
to go.
And I am really glad I did! So far PE has not
impressed me with their culinary skills – the food in none of the restaurants
I’ve visited so far has left much impression. But tonight? The best done food
I’ve had in a long time! And not only by PE Standards – they impress even by
Pretoria standards! In Pretoria there are some excellent chefs – true artists
with food! And what I ate tonight was really, really delicious! We had prawns:
not only were they excellently prepared - they were also the largest prawns I’ve
seen served in years! Even the old LM Prawns in Pretoria West – THE Prawn
Restaurant – can’t compare. And the ribs? Absolute perfection! Even Mike’s
Kitchen of old are no match. Where did we go? Cubata Sydenham!
Back home Silver wants attention badly. Her front arms
are shaking while I rub her belly. It’s quite strange how she looks straight
into my eyes the whole time. Her temperature seems to have dropped as well and
she’s fit to burst. Belly stretched to what seems like the limit. Mammary
glands full, though I haven’t seen any milk, yet. No loss of appetite, though –
and no lack of fit-to-fight when the black and white cat is outside! Kittens
are still moving, so I guess everything is still normal. She’s lying by my side
on the floor now and it looks like there are ripples along her belly – could be
contractions? I have no experience, so I wouldn’t know. She made no move to go
out – except to attach Black & White. That’s when I closed the door. She
prefers to stay close to her nest, I presume. Where she used to run eagerly
into the kitchen whenever I got up, now she runs just as eagerly into the
bedroom! I can’t tell whether she’s really in need, or whether she’s just
training me as her servant!
