Kittens doing well!

Undisturbed sleep all night! What bliss! It lasted until about half six, when Silver decided to leave the nest to get some attention for herself. She growled again when the kittens complained, but stuck to her guns and came to bed with me for a cuddle. She’s not quite sure how to deal with this whole situation, yet. Her instincs tell her to attend to her kittens when they mewl, and she’s not quite sure how to address her own needs over that instinct. Such as needing the litter box, needing to eat and she also needs attention herself. Time will tell whether her mother-instinct is strong enough to balance her needs with her kittens – or ... ? She always meows when I come to look in on her, and I always sit down and pet her for a bit. But being tied down like that does not seem to agree with her nature.

When I got home she came out to greet me. Can’t have been easy for her lying still in that small space all day long! So I looked in on the minis – they were asleep – then coaxed her outside and downstairs for a bit of fresh air. It took a bit of coaxing, she was quite reluctant to go at first, but quite enjoyed herself once she’d overcome her reluctance.

My neighbour has had an exciting day: when she fetched Dark Silver (aka Shadow) from the vet night before last, she recognized her voice and was quite pleased to see her. The vet advised to keep her indoors for a day, so she’s kept her in her spare bedroom yesterday. Today, when she opened up to let her out, she expected her to shoot out and away – instead, Shadow was quite pleased to see her and hasn’t left her side all day! And her poor cats aren’t too pleased. Her female got in a fight with Shadow and is licking her wounds and her tom doesn’t know where he’s safe anymore! She’s staying out of it – they’ll have to sort themselves out! She’s in for a fun time!

Not that I’m in a position to laugh – what with four kittens! I dare not think of what it will be like, when they start exploring! Just the thought is giving me nightmares!

It didn’t take much persuading to get Silver back upstairs and she ran straight to her nest and settled back down with her kittens – even though they hadn’t woken up. I sat down with her and fussed over her quite a bit. She did her normal barrel-roll when I rubbed her belly – rolling right over her minis! More than once! She may have strong mother-instincts but she’s sure short in the know-how department! They’re not hurt, so I guess it’ll be ok; but seriously? Kind of makes me wonder whether she was maybe taken from her own mother a bit too young? We do think Silver and Shadow are sisters, they have similar characteristics, too – like aggressively defending their newly-claimed territory. Their eyes are also almost the same shade of green when they’re in the same mood. Silver’s eyes are mostly yellow, but sometimes shading to green. But if they are sisters, Silver was definitely the runt of the litter. She’s a lot smaller than Shadow.

Well, the minis are doing well, Silver has eaten, I’ve cleaned her litter box, now for a cuddle before I go to sleep.
