Provided his temperature stays down, I will be able to bring Mew-Mew home today! Holding thumbs - I'm going to the vet around eight, when they open! Though I must bring him for a check-up Monday.
Back at home, I fed the ferals and to my dismay I saw that Lady Sybill's eye is watering again! And her brother's eye also has a crust around the lid! I was able to catch Lady Sybill, clean her eye, put ointment in ... but I'm very, very afraid that this means that I have to euthanise them both!
I'm having a very, very hard time wrapping my head around that. Sad thing is, if it is indeed the Snuffles ... as I understand it, there is no cure. And it is contagious. They could spread it to my mippies ... and then ... no ... the choice now is either them or my mippies. That makes it a little easier ...
How will I get them both to the vet, though? I'll have to carry them in one of the traps. Lady Sybill is easy, I can still pick her up - though she has grown more wary of being caught; she still hangs around me, when I'm in the garden. She was by my side, when I was pruning the tomato plants, watchin every move, trying to play with some of the off cuts ... my heart is so sore ...
As I was having my last smoke on the veranda, I watched their mommy herd them into the field - I had been re-arranging everything in the Wendy, trying to find whether maybe their eye issue is from something they may be allergic to ... I suppose mommy feels the Wendy is no longer safe. Sybill gave me such a sad look, looking back at me, as she was following her mommy and brother ...
I made myself potatoes for dinner. I also already fried the chicken hearts - gosh do they just attrackt flies! My kitchen was buzzing like a generator from all the flies! I'll still shred them - as Sybill and Vimes weren't too keen on the whole ones. I suppose they still struggle to chew them.
Right now, I'm trying to steel myself for catching them and putting them in the trap to take with me ...
We had quite a thunderstorm last night, with a lot of rain ... I hope that drove the ferals back into the Wendy, which is at least dry!
Huuuuuge relief! With treatment, Lady Sybill and Spitfire Vimes should be fine! Not perfectly healthy, but fine! What they've got is a type of Herpes, which flares up anytime their immune system is down. Same thing I went through with those fever blisters my whole life. And I've had Sybill tested, she's negative for Feline AIDS and Leukemia. I've got batches of meds for each of the three - including Mewthos, and I need to bring Mewthos for check up on Monday.
I can't tell you what a huge relief it is, having feared the worst ... bringing her home alive! But only because she isn't 100% feral - because I CAN treat her, when needed! If she was totally feral, with only someone bringing food once a day ... it would have been better.
Anyway, Mew-Mew is home! But he's not allowed to roll in the dirt - so I'm keeping the whole lot indoors all weekend! Sigh ... Mini is hissing and growling at Mew-Mew, Janey and Ziva are on top of the bookshelf, staying far away ... Mewthos is mewling at the top of his lungs ... ha ha, I wonder why I thought bringing him home would be a good idea? Nah! Kidding!
Rough, though, not being able to go outside ... but it will pass! As soon as his wounds are closed. I'll be fine with this temporary inconvenience ...
I managed to catch Spitfire Vimes! Cleaned his eye, shoved the bit of med in his mouth and washed it down with water. Like his sister, he was really quite docile, once I caught him! Probably because I held him by the scruff of his neck - like mommy cats do.
I put some ointment in Mewthos' wounds - vet gave me the same stuff I got from the vet in PE. Only: the 'cleaning stuff' is diluted! I never knew I should dilute it! No wonder they fought so hard, every time I put that on wounds! Live and learn, eh?
I've hung the washing up - going through the garage to get out, because Mewthos is looking for a gap, to dash out! Through the garage gives me two doors, so if he slips in there, I just don't open the garage door, then do my best to catch him.
It's past eleven already ... I've sanitised the Wendy, and the traps, and the carrier. I've put Mew-Mew's blankie and his twirly in the machine - both smelled of cat pee! Now I'm going to try to wash the dishes - though first, I want to mince the chicken hearts and put them into the freezer.
Internet is dodgy again. On and off, on and off ... no signal, low signal ... sigh ...
I had removed the seal from the pressure cooker lid, as one person advised that it could get iffy, since it doesn't totally dry otherwise. Had a major cussing and screaming session - all by myself - trying to get the flippin' thing back on! Eventually I took a knife, to try and get it around that loose lower lid ... only to find out: it's removable! Checked the manual ... yep! It's all very simple ... stupid of me!
Ten to five, and I'm only starting to sauté! I've done the bell pepper - harvested another two, now doing the butternut and carrots. I want to take them out, so they don't get cooked to mush - but I do want the flavour. I'll sauté the meat as well, a few minutes on each side. Then set the pressure cooker - turns out max is 60 minutes. I need 90 minutes. Sigh ...
I used to work on 1 pound is 500 gram, but that's not quite right. I've now added the conversion to my spreadsheet, so I can just add the kg and it converts to pound. How did I weigh the roast, when my kitchen scale doesn't go above 500 gram? You'll laugh! I stood on my bathroom scale, then lifted the roast. I know that together they were 4,5 kg, and the one is bigger than the other. So one is 2.5 the other 2 kg.
Sigh ... feckin' internet! I just lost what I had written an hour ago ... Shite! Seriously, this load shedding? How on earth are we going to cope with this for another 2 years?
Anyway. Roast is done, I'm just waiting to be able to open the pot, then I'll add the veggies, do another 3 minutes and that's it. It's quarter past seven - I hope I make it! I'm just tired now ... showered, fed the ferals, fed the babies ... just tired ...
