Wednesday, 8th December
Early-ish morning. I snoozed the alarm quite a few times - I had trouble falling asleep last night.
Facebook memories just brought up a fun memory: Today, 11 years ago, I interviewed for this job. Or rather, for a 2-year contract as Site Secretary - which eventually led to my current, permanent confinement. Ha Ha!
Mippie treats have arrived, and my Hummingbirds have been collected! Now I'm just waiting for the replacement butterflies and my garden projects delivery.
And here's my garden projects delivery! Lovely! That's me all set for the holidays ... pity I still have to work two days, eh? I'm keen on trying out the rapid-set cement, though! I've seen some really simple suggestions, which even I shouldn't be able to muck up!
Back at home, I decided to see what I can do about that section around the Jacaranda tree. Oh my word! That entire section is one solid carpet of weeds! But, thanks to my recent efforts, mostly short weeds, not so many of the tall ones. Not as many as last year, at least. But also, thanks to the recent rains, the 'short' weeds have grown quite tall. Yet, again, thanks to the recent rains, the ground is soft, I can get the big fork in the soil almost effortlessly, and just pluck the weeds out, again, almost effortlessly. It's quite enjoyable, actually!
As I'm busy in that section, I see Mewthos trying to climb over the wall from the next door garden into the one behind that! Where dogs are barking! Fortunately, those dogs have cat friends, so at least there's no need to panic - but still! I call Mewthos to come home. He - obediently - comes to the fence ... but, in true Mewthos style - he has no clue how to get back! Unlike the ladies, he never gives any thought to getting back when he goes out exploring - he trusts in me absolutely! I ALWAYS come to bring him home! So, instead of looking for his way back, when I don't react to his mewling, he settles down, in the corner, and waits.
Until I realise that he's decided that I must make a path for him - or fetch him! I know from past attempts, that there's no hole in the fence where he can get through - he has to go out into the field, not directly back to my garden. Fortunately the gate was open next door ... so, off I trot, into the house, get the key, through the gate, along the wall, all the way around to collect Mewthos and carry him home! Which, of course, he doesn't like - oh, I may come and fetch him, but not carry him all the way home! He wriggles in my arms - and, given his size and weight ... I eventually give in and put him down!
And then the silly bugger tries to slip between the bars of the moving gate! He figured it out in time, though! What a Doofus!
As I was weeding, I decided that this holiday, every day, I will simply do whatever I feel like! No goals, no targets, no expectations. And no priorities! Oh, I'll have to mow quite often, but that's the only 'priority'. Oh, and where I already have plants growing, I'll have to look after them. Well, at least, if I want to harvest.
Anyway. While I was working in that weed carpet, I was thinking that it might be a good idea to sow flowers there. Self-seeding ones, like maybe Cosmos? Nasturtiums would do well, there. I've thought of that before and decided against that, because, once you have any of those growing somewhere - they are there for good! And I'm not sure that's what I want there ... Some lovely herb bushes would be so nice in that area? But they don't stand much chance against the weeds ... I'll think about it some more. I first have to clear some ground, anyway.
I can't just mow those weeds, I'm afraid. Although I had cleared the entire patch - when they sawed off those Jacaranda branches, they left too many bits of branches lying around - everywhere. So I have to clear the area all over again. But, like I said, it's actually fun at the moment!
Well, two more days of work, and then ...
