Silly me, for staying up too late! Again! I woke up to Janey licking me awake - that's a first! I'm not sure who snoozed my alarm, though.
I started my normal morning routine - albeit somewhat late - and when I was about to pack my phone, I saw a message. Lawn mower man wants me to call before I leave for work. I called. He asks if I can give him my remote, so he can do the mowing today. I tell him, he can use the spare, that's at the office. Huh? Why? Don't you trust me? Duh! It's the same remote! Same access! Okay, can you just please push the mower outside before you leave? Uhm, I'm busy. I can open for you, you can come fetch it.
Man, what a palaver! I'm sorry, but I don't feel comfortable handing my only means of access to my home to someone who operates on African time! I really do not want to have to sit and wait, or drive around, after work, just to be able to get into my home!
As I'm leaving, I see the guard walking along. Stop. No, he's coming to check on me, make sure everything is fine! I give him a lift back to the office, and tell him my neighbour will come to collect the remote today, so he can mow my lawn.
The guard and I are both wondering, whether the manager has obtained a new battery for the remote, yet? ;)
I call the neighbour, to let him know that I need him to mow EVERYTHING in the front - as he commented about the partitioned area 'I guess I should mow that, as well?' He tells me, some of that grass looks like tough, hard grass, rather than standard lawn. He might not be able to cut that with the mower - but he'll see what he can do. Oh, and no need to mow the back, I'll take care of that myself. Fine.
Here's my question: Everyone is continuously laughing at me, for having procured a manual push-mower - with that incredulity of 'gee, that's such unnecessarily hard work!' Yet, nobody has yet been able to explain to me, how an electric or petrol mower is different? And now, if it cannot mow the tough grass - same problem I have with the manual one - WHY should I spend twice as much money on a mower, that a) can't do anything mine can't do and b) is really no less effort to use? I mean, when I'm just re-mowing my lawn, it really is just a matter of walking up and down - no heavy pushing or having to go over anything twice. So, can someone just tell me what's the difference?
Anyway. My delivery arrived early this morning! Happy! Mippies will also be happy, as the delivery also included pouches of treats for them!
I'm not very happy about my current bank balance. I may have gotten a teeny bit carried away ... who can blame me? Well, I'm now back on a strict budget. Until that balance is more pleasant, I won't be buying any extra's. Only groceries. I also need to re-stock my medicine cabinet - migraine cocktail, electrolytes, tissue salts, and such. Only essential items, though.
I've also gone to get milk. I've dug heavily into my long-life milk stores - that's how I was able to avoid a shopping trip last week.
Got a message that he can't enter, as the remote isn't working ...
I came home and found that he's at least mowed the driveway, so I no longer have to bundu-bash hobble-drive over grass taller than the car!
I'm kind of listless at home tonight - well, not exactly. More like: eager to start watching my DVDs! Ha Ha! I did the essential chores, then spent some time outside with mippies, and then came inside and started on the first episode - after showering, of course. It's just past eight, I'm afraid one episode is all I have time for, though ... sigh ... no worries! Carry on tomorrow!
