I had barely published the last post, when the power went out! Again! Sigh. I heard the power was out throughout the entire Pretoria! That's quite frightening! My landlord reckoned that, since it took days to replace 100m of stolen cable, we're in for a long wait ... I replied, if all the government officials around the Union Buildings are without power, it will be fixed fast!
I was right!
I had gone into the garden and started digging holes - now that the ground was soft, thanks to the rain - and planting more of my spekboom from pots into the ground! I also took the two I had temporarily planted alongside the path and moved them to a permanent home.
I learned my lesson about planting tall stuff along the path I carry my groceries past! I had quite some trouble in PE swinging and swaying bags of groceries around the cosmos, snap dragons and carnations! Plus, of course, all the trouble with the Alyssum and Nasturtiums which simply would not stay off my walkway! Yes, it was beautiful, but very impractical! This time, only short plants are allowed alongside my path! And I already have enough trouble keeping those red flowering succulents in check, he he he.
Speaking of Spekboom, those tall trees are currently in flower! It's quite a sight, seeing those trees, which are taller than I am, green from the waist down and a pinkish kind of colouring on the upper half!
After I'd planted five Spekboom, I started digging up those freaking thorn plants again. They were teeny tiny little specks of green, nothing more. Showing me where to find the roots I hadn't been able to pull out last time around! With the ground soft from the rain, I could dig quite deep, and I managed to get quite a lot of them out! I definitely don't want the whole place covered with those thorns again!
And then, just for good measure, I started digging up thorns on the lawn! The place now looks as if a dog was looking for a much loved, long lost bone!
It's lovely having everything done and dusted, and the rest of the weekend free to do just what I like, when I like! Oh, sure, there's still the laundry tomorrow and I'll need to bake a loaf of bread for the week, but that doesn't take up much time!
In case you've been wondering, I didn't make pizza. Instead, I re-heated the pasta I had cooked Thursday night - I added some grilled aubergine (from a jar) and sour cream. And for tomorrow, I'm planning to try the sausage in a bun baking thing.
Oh, and I've cleared out everything that went off in the fridge during all those power failures ... sigh ... it was quite a lot. Every jar and every piece of produce ... except for the carrots. But my jar of anchovies? Sigh, those don't come cheap! I'll be carrying another bag to work on Monday! Tomorrow, I'm afraid, I'll be adding the bananas I had put in the freezer Tuesday night ... they've been going off, rather than freezing, for two days! This is quite depressing ...
Mippies had a great time in the evening, lots of insects were out after this mornings rain, mippies were bouncing around like a herd of kangaroos! It was quite fun to watch! Unfortunately they also brought in a big, chirpy beetle! Again!
And that's the afternoon ... It's been fun! More tomorrow!
