Friday & Saturday morning

Not much to tell about work ... I worked. Mostly.

My chocolates arrived, though! And they added quite a few goodies, too! I'm in chocolate heaven now, he he he!

On the way home, I took a chance to see whether the farmer was home - he is usually there only after four, and I didn't get lucky. So it will be quite a milkless weekend, I'm afraid.

At home, I got somewhat busy. I started by setting up dough for breakfast tomorrow. This is the second time I'm trying this herb bread recipe, and both times, the dough turns out somewhat moist. I think next time, I either add more herbs or less oil. It's a 700 gram loaf, so I divided the dough and baked four rolls with half and put the other half in the fridge. I can't decide whether to use it for pizza or to try an idea I've had, of baking some sausages inside the dough!

While the dough was being made, I washed all the dishes. And about time, too! It wasn't exactly a lot, just a lot of large stuff. Pots and pans mostly. I also started cleaning the fridge, the top two shelves, so far.

Then I sat down for some online shopping - I'm planning a surprise! I'm somewhat disconcerted that products, which I had tried and liked, are disappearing from the site! Some of them were new products, not very long ago - and now, they are not even available anymore. Like the chocolate chips I got a few months ago! And a lot of items are out of stock, a lot of the time! I'm wondering what that means?

Well, it's been a week and I was quite exhausted, I tried going to bed early ... but it was past nine when I finally did.

As I went to bed, I remembered the cheese! I had forgotten to start the process! So, I ended up doing that at nine o'clock at night! Well, it's not much work, so it wasn't a problem. Just heating the milk, adding the dissolved rennet and the buttermilk. Then put the lid on the pot and went to bed.

I woke nice and early this morning to lovely rain! Not a downpour, not a drizzle, but lovely, steady, plenty of rain! The entire garden is beautifully soaked without being flooded. Mippies, of course, are not happy about the rain - tough! He he!

It rained for about two more hours, lovely steady rain! Just after eight - 11 hours later - I checked on my cheese. This time, I actually could cut cubes, like it says in the direction - I'm hoping this means I'll be getting more product out of the two liters! I also didn't wring out all the whey, as the last batch was a little dry. I'm just letting it drip through the cheesecloth bag. Maybe that means I will be able to mix in some of the spices, too, and not just add some outside!

While the mippies were moping - especially as I refused to open the kitchen window! No reason they should paw in the mud all over the floor! - I started cleaning. First, I took a bucket and washed all the piddle drips and puddles and off the walls and ... sigh ...

Then I swept everything out and ... having time on my hands and nothing urgent to do, I started moving boxes around in the lounge. I unpacked a few, and re-arranged the rest to give me even more space in the lounge. It's coming along, albeit very slowly! I have some more space to move - and clean - now, but there are still towers of boxes filling the place. Sigh.

It stopped raining around eight, and I've taken a stroll around my garden. I'm delighted to see how many bits of green are coming through! My Brussel Sprouts are sprouting nicely! As are the Alyssum! Only the carrots are still not making an effort ... sigh.

With all that rain today would be a good day to turn over a new bed in the garden ... I'm a little tired, now, though. It's about two in the afternoon, I've re-done the dishes so the kitchen is nice and clean. The cheese turned out much nicer, less dry than the first batch, and I do indeed have some more than I had last time! I was able to mix in some of the spices - it's tasting really nice! Much like cottage cheese! So, using sour milk is not a problem at all!

Everything I needed to do is done ... well, I still have to do some banking and my laundry, of course, but otherwise I have the weekend free and can do whatever I feel like!
