There was absolutely nothing to tell, yesterday. I worked, got milk on the way home, let out mippies ... uhm, hello? Three big mips zoom out, where's mini? Hmm ... she's stretched out behind the armchair around the flower fountain and won't move!? Is something wrong? Nope, just in a different mood today. I picked her up and took her outside and she she played quite happily!
I washed the dishes - just the bread baking stuff, really. Had my second sausage-in-the-bun for dinner - mippies are disappointed: nothing for them! That was pretty much it. I went to bed ... and the power went out! For about half an hour? Then came back on. Then went off again ... and came back on about quarter of an hour later.
This morning I got up, went to work. Slight traffic problem as the killer robot isn't working - so, rather than change lanes in this madhouse, I turn left, right and right again to get to where I need.
Work ... not much to tell. And then I finally got my rear into gear about the eye test and found out that it's free of charge and no appointment needed! So my colleague and I asked if we could go and off we went!
Detour to Builders, so I can get the garden fork I wanted and some seeds. Uhm ... I got lots and lots and lots of seeds! I just couldn't help myself! But I only went really overboard with the flower seeds! The herbs and veggies? I was quite rational! I got only seeds I know I hadn't got at home (thanks to my organiser, I now know!). And only of herbs & veggies I will definitely eat! No radishes, etc.
When it came to selecting flower seeds though, I went really overboard! I got just about a packet of everything they offered! I've been sowing flower seeds by the packet around the Cosmos and so far, nothing seems to be coming up! No harm in having options! I also found some grass seeds, which can take full sun and do NOT creep! I'm really sick of all those creeper grass varieties! They creep and creep and creep and all you see is those sticks scattered everywhere, with maybe a tuft of green here and there!
And then I looked at the bulbs ... they did not have much. Not much at all! No daffodils, for starters. I did take an Amaryllis (a white one, I already have a red one growing in the pot) and two types of Gladiola. Not that I have any clue where I'll put any of those ...
They also didn't have a replacement solar light for my Humming Bird. I looked. And then I wisely moved towards the till ... before I get carried away! Ha Ha, too late, eh?
Anyway, we then went to the optometrist only to find out that we need to produce identification for an eye test! Okay, in hindsight, it makes sense - otherwise I'd have my eyes tested and someone else could use the result. So we'll have to go again.
I did have a look at curtains in one of the shops we passed. I need 160 length, but they only had 120 or 218! Normally, 120 would be fine - except we're talking about the bathroom. I really need those lace curtains to completely cover the entire window so that I can shower during the day, if I like. And don't need to feel exposed when I go to the toilet! Tynx really ripped the curtain good and proper! Ha Ha!
On the way out, I stopped and treated myself to some Biltong!
My mind is now in my garden. That Amaryllis bulb is already pushing out leaves, so it will need ground very, very soon. I think I will put that in the center of that bed between the Cosmos and the row of spekboom.
Some of those short flowers can go into the bed alongside the path, on the lawn side. Like the Gazania, the Forget-me-not and the Pansy. IF any of them will grow! Sigh. I've never managed to get Forget-me-not to actually grow ... yet. And I'll cut those red flower thingies as needed <evil chuckle> my landlord won't like it, but tough! It IS MY garden! And I already have limited options, because he's been so busy putting in lots and lots of those hardy succulents!
Last night he got upset with me for watering my bed! Yes, I know it's costing electricity to pump into the tank, then more to come out of the tap - but seriously? I used a watering can and I sure as heck won't risk my seeds drying out again! Anyway, he doesn't get angry upset, his bark is harmless. He means well - and, after all, he has gone way out of his way to keep my garden watered. He filled my can with rain water after that, and I may get a rain-water trough as well - which will help.
It rained again last night, too, so my beds should still be moist tonight. If not, I'll water! Ha ha! I see lots and lots of melons popping up now - I'm really hoping some of them will turn out to be spanspek! My bush beans are also doing very well! Peas are coming up everywhere, too and the tomato plants are coming along nicely.
This weekend I should really make that bed next to the Cosmos first priority! Trouble is that it's almost always in full sun - and I've already burned my back, careful as I try to be! I wondered earlier today, why my back was so itchy - turns out that I'm peeling! Sigh.
At home, that Amaryllis bulb went right into the ground! Poor thing had already sprouted so big it filled the bag it was in, and was bending double! So I planted it in the bed alongside the path near the front door. I watered - with rain water my landlord gave me! The melons are really shooting up en masse now!
I sat outside for quite some time, but showered first. I don't need to pack lunch nor have any dinner tonight - the Biltong is enough to cover both! I called mippies in, gave them their treat ... and forgot that I had left the front door open, since Mini was busy with a buzzing insect when they came in! Half an hour later, I wondered why it was so quiet in here - all mips had gone back outside! Sigh. However, I just called them and they were all back inside in less than a minute! No trouble at all!
I'm really tired tonight, as I didn't get enough sleep last night. Hopefully I'll have a better night tonight ...
