Rainy Saturday

I had a good, albeit long night. The heat and humidity, and first day of my period completely drained my energy and I slept and slept and slept. Mewhtos and Ziva occasionally came to inquire whether it wasn’t time to get up, but didn’t insist. And so it was nearly nine before I finally got out of bed.

I opened the front door, it was still drizzling after some hard rain during the night, I was hoping the Mips would object to The Wet outside! What they objected to was the noise the work crew made when they came to repair that burst water pipe!

I used that opportunity of all cats inside to quickly get some groceries – bread and milk. And cat food, of course! Ziva dashed out with me – I haven’t seen her since.

Of course I first had to ask, then wait for the work crew to move their equipment. They had parked their equipment in such a way, that I couldn’t even squeeze through the walk-through gate! I had to ask three times before they grasped that the reason I was standing by my gate and talking to them was because I want to get out and can’t! Seriously! And then they asked me for cold drinks! Not water – which is all I have in my house. That wasn’t good enough, they want Coca Cola. Yeah. No! When I got back, I had to wait yet again for them to move their equipment so I could get in.

Oh, my! I’m laughing so hard my side’s hurt! Lady Jane just jumped off my lap … into the waste bin! You know, the one with the swivel lid? Only this time it was nearly empty, and the lid closed above her – only her tail was sticking out! Of course I rescued her immediately! But now I have two hilarious images going with that swivel bin – Mewthos’ butt sticking out and Lady Jane’s tail!

The weather today is just awful. I’m happy about the rain, but I had hoped it would cool things down a bit – which it hasn’t. Today is not only very hot (over 30°C) it is also unpleasantly humid! It feels like I’m covered in a layer of liquid Velcro! Whenever I detach skin from skin – there’s that Velcro effect!

I decided to start on my carpentry project anyway. The simple task of drilling a few holes takes me over an hour. Why? Well, I haven’t used a drill in twenty years or more! And I’m trying to fit an attachment I didn’t know existed until recently. On top of that, drilling makes a noise that frightens kitties – so I need time to prepare them. By explaining to Mewthos what I’m about to do, he then takes care of Lady Jane and they’re both fine with the noise. When it comes to the vacuuming, however, they both prefer to go outside while I do that. Ziva is somewhere … walkabout! She pops in every now and then, but since the Mips are staying close to me, she doesn’t feel duty-bound to stick around.

When I’m not making noise, however, the Mips are inspecting every single move I make. They try to nibble on the ruler, sniff the pencil, and paw the pipes. This is a very interesting game!

And now I’ve hit a snag – what I had in mind is not going to work, it’ll wobble. So I’ll have to get more materials to make this work. I’ll have to go to Walmer for that tomorrow. I have an idea, which should work.

I’ve noticed another change in Ziva’s behaviour: she no longer comes running to beg every time I open the fridge! And remember last night? She didn’t clean out the mousse – Mewthos did that later, just before we went to bed last night.

Rose was out most of today. Earlier, I took a photo of her tom sitting by the gate.

Later I saw Shadow sitting in the same place, waiting for Rose.

Upstairs, I took some photos of my family.
Lady Jane
That look between Lady Jane and Mewthos! Isn't that beautiful?

Lady Jane has decided she wants to sleep on my chest,
but first, we must find the most comfortable position
And yeah, that's her tail in my face!

It takes a few turns before we find the most comfortable spot

Spot found! We can nap now.

Cats are weird, they sleep in the strangest positions!

Lady Jane sleeping happily!

An hour or so later, I'm sitting in my chair - when Mewthos climbs
between me and the chair-back. It's one of his favourite moves!

Lady Jane saw the happily napping Mewthos and decided to join him!
Both, snug between me and the chair-back!

I don't even have to be in the chair :)

A little later, Ziva sees her Mips sleeping on the chair
and decides to join them!

A little later still, I find Ziva holding Mewthos leg
Isn't that just too precious?

And here Ziva is giving Mewthos a wash!
See how large he has grown? He is almost the same size as his mommy!
