Mostly about gardening

At some time during the night all cats came to cuddle up against me. Sweet! I opted for a leisurely morning – so leisurely, that it’s now too late for shopping, so I’ll do that tomorrow. It’s a lovely day today, I’m thinking of spending some time tending to my neglected garden – as I’ve already spent more than an hour playing with & feeding my Mip Mips.

I give up with Ziva – she’s just carried the third bird into my bedroom! It looks like a feather mortuary! And always pigeons, nothing else. She’s not hungry, she’s not bored, she’s not lacking attention nor meat in her diet … I don’t know what to do anymore!

I’ve filled the drum with as many branches of the yellow Tecoma tree as I could fit. Quick and effective. Last year a whole host of Aloe’s tried to bloom, but couldn’t because they didn’t get enough sun – next year they’ll get all the sun they need. I was so excited, as they had never flowered before, and then so disappointed, when only one or two buds actually flowered. Next year I want it covered in fiery red flowers.

Before I get to the rest of the garden, I’ll have to wait for the sun to move. It’s much too hot to work in the full sun. Although this time of the year the whole garden is in full sun all afternoon!

I cleaned the Nasturtiums – which are at the end of their life-cycle – and bagged as many seeds as I felt up to picking up. About half a sandwich bag. Every flower makes 3 seeds, so there is a whole host of seeds still in the bed.

When Rose came up for her daily visit, we found a fourth pigeon lying in front of my bed – which Ziva proceeded to devour with gusto! And Rose told me, she’d found a bird wing in her garden, all the birds she’s brought up had two wings, so that makes at least five pigeons she’s caught and eating in one day! The last one had a crop full of seeds, from a feeder. I’m not happy about this. Not happy at all.

After Rose left, I went back into the garden, cleaning the beds along the fence. In the weeks since the Mip Mips started walking and I have neglected to weed, those weeds sure have taken over! I filled altogether two bags in the short time I had for gardening!

At seven, Shadow was taken in by Rose again, and I cooked dinner, bathed and went to bed … and forgot to post the blog.
