First day in my new home – 31 January

I woke up even earlier than yesterday, sometime after five. I enjoyed my first sunrise in my new home – and took some photos.

I didn’t get much sleep, and I’m still not hungry. I had only the one cheese roll and some cookies yesterday – even though there’s a rump steak in the fridge. I forgot to mention, that my boss called yesterday morning: He needs me for a meeting on Friday at ten. Sigh. That’s really throwing me, since my mind is not functioning well. And I’m awfully tired – yet can’t sleep.

I meant to go and get all the fresh groceries today, get that over with … but I wasn’t feeling up to it. Not the drive. Not the carrying. Not the people. I decided to do that tomorrow, after the meeting. Mippies are due to fly at one, arrive at the airport just after half three, give 45 minutes to an hour for check out, then an hours drive – so they should be here around four, half past four. That should give me enough time to drive to Pretoria East, get what I need and come back well in time.

The pressure is still on: some things must be finished before the mippies arrive – and once they are here, I’ll need to stay in the bedroom with them as much as possible. So, let’s work in the kitchen today; get that up and running. I can catch up on this blog on Saturday (which happens to be what I’m doing right now).

I’m not too happy about that meeting tomorrow, it means that I have to wake up – so I probably won’t really sleep; yet again. Ah well.

I don’t have much energy and not much drive. I looked at the steak – but I just don’t see myself eating it. It’s too much. Even if I cut off only a small piece; I just don’t feel like eating. I have another cheese roll and a biscuit.

Oh, funny thing happened: I was outside having a smoke when my landlord and landlady drove off to work – when I came inside, I found one of their little dogs sitting in the passage looking at me with sad eyes! Ha Ha! Turns out this little one takes a chance when the window is open – so I put her out the same window and closed it!

I’m working at snails pace, but quite steadily. Not much to tell, at the end of the day I’ve got as much kitchen set up as I had most of January: just the bare essentials.

On Tuesday I missed a call from a friend – she happened to be near my PE home and hoped I was still there. We agreed to meet up once she’s back in Pretoria.

There really isn’t much more to tell about my first day. Oh, in the evening the power went out again. When it finally came back, I took a shower again and tried the sleep thing … without much success, I’m afraid.

I still haven’t tried the bath.
