Lock-down Day 663

Earlier morning than yesterday. Good. Coffee ... work.

I just realised that I had gone off track with the day numbering a while back ... one of those dyslexic moments I'm getting in my old age. This morning I thought that we can't still be in the 500s, so I checked. All correct now, I hope.

And yes, the friggin' State of Disaster has been extended yet again ... Sigh ...

Back at home, I pick up a few more peaches, then start clearing the jungle next to the pavement. I managed to finish that part, will carry on in that section tomorrow.

Smeagol showed up late, he made no trouble whatsoever! He stuck around and came for attention - which I gave. He was in a fickle mood, and I already have the marks of his 'please don't leave, yet' on my calf! I did give him half a pouch of Whiskas, though, and some attention ...

When I came inside, I found something brown, speckled and alive under the toilet! At first I thought it was a snake! Curled up! Then I thought a frog? A toad? But it was a bird! With quite an ugly wound on its back! Poor thing! It's still a baby - but a big baby! If it lives, it'll be a big bird!

Well ... I cleaned the wound, put on ointment, picked off the worms (yuk!), gave it some water, put it safely in a box with holes and some paper towels and put it in the garage for tonight. I sent messages to At and my neighbour, asking whether they have any suggestions.

At suggested the cleaning & ointment. My neighbour gave me a contact who might take the bird tomorrow.

Only ... tomorrow is the day my boss arranged to have my car fixed! Which means that I won't have any transport while I'm at work ... sigh ...

Anyway, it's late again ... time to sleep. I checked on the bird, it seems to be over the shock and is quite lively! If it wasn't for the wound, I would normally release it at this point - but the injury looks like it needs serious attention, and, of course, it is too small to fly! I can't put it outside hoping its parents will find it ... not if Smeagol is still around ...

Well ... tomorrow ... let's hope it lives!
