Mewthos has developed a new habit: he now uses white
material as a sort of floss! His first choice is my bedsheet – see the holes?
He just puts his canines through the sheet, nothing
more. No chewing, no tearing – just pushes his canines through the material, as
if he’s flossing! He does the same with my laundry hamper.
He also has another patch of fur missing – smaller
than last time and not quite under his chin, on his throat! I’ve taken a close
look, the skin is raw, there’s no fur – but it’s not bleeding, either. How does
he do that? Rose reckons it’s like a scrape – which would make sense. He is so
clumsy, it’s easy to imagine him grazing himself occasionally.
Romeo is still Romeo. I still make every effort to
meet his attention-needs and in turn he sprays less and less. Rose tells me she
‘caught’ him in her flat the other day, but couldn’t discover any odour. So,
maybe he can ‘spray’ odourless? I know I haven’t detected any pong lately – but
there’s always the possibility that my sense of smell is to blame.
He comes around at least once a day, and often stays
for a long time. Caterwauling till I want to just muzzle him, he he. It’s been
raining on and off most of the week, and he’s been ‘playing’ with my kitties.
One time he and Mew were playing so happily, they bumped against the wobbly
connection and switched off all power in the lounge! Ha Ha Ha! It’s wobbly, but
not dangerous – the only way any kittie could get hurt is if they chew a wire,
or aim a stream directly into a socket!
One problem with giving Romeo the attention he needs
is that my own kitties feel neglected – that’s why Mewthos sometimes fights
with Romeo. Lady Jane in particular stays around every morning when I open the
door – while Ziva and Mewthos go out, she curls up in the chair and watches me.
She still runs excitedly into the bedroom every time
she sees me getting up! When I follow her, she just stands there mipping
excitedly! Yet, when I start playing … she just watches or meanders around
disinterestedly … However, all Mips show up as soon as I sit on the floor in
the bedroom! Ha Ha! Weird Mips!
The weather hasn’t been too nice, lately. Some rain,
some sunshine, and a lot of gale-force winds! It lifted the access door to my
roof and broke a branch off the tree!
One day we had stormy winds early morning, then later
it settled down to a beautiful sunny day – and Rose and I decided to take
advantage and spend time in the garden. I had put out the chair for Rose and
just as she came around the corner, some bird deposited a load smack on the
chair! Ha Ha!
With all the wind and rain, there’s a lot needing my
attention – particularly the Carnations, which are outgrowing their support!
And some of them have twisted and turned like a corkscrew! I ruthlessly cut all
the twisted strands … and then ‘dumped’ them on Rose! I’ve run out of space as
well, now. Half-way through the second bush, the weather turned and we fled
inside. I finished the bush as soon as the rain stopped, then packed my
gardening away, again.
Yesterday it was sunny again and our gardener came to
work in Rose’s garden. His presence kept my Mippies inside, so I took the
opportunity to get some groceries. This time I got lucky and they had just
baked the bread I want – it was still warm! Lovely!
Rose told me the other day about a crow dive-bombing
Romeo – and today I experienced it myself! Not just saw! Romeo was on the ledge
outside my window, when I saw this big black shape swooshing past – very close
to my window! When I stepped to the window, I had to actually wave my hands
outside to deter that awful bird! It settled on the wire and just waited for
another chance! This interested Lady Jane, and she came out onto the window
sill – so I went to the bedroom and opened that window, which is quite near the
wire, and still the bird stayed! Watching me with beady eyes – waiting for
another chance to attack a cat! I had to lean out and wave my arms again before
it flew off!
Sigh, I keep making the same silly mistake: cleaning
up all the feathers in the bathroom. Yup, I just had it nice and clean again –
when Mewthos brought in a dead bird! I doubt he caught it, he’s not that agile
– but he is a big bully! He just takes it from Ziva! Lady Jane does the same to
Ziva with grasshoppers! Mewthos plays with the bird – picks it up, tosses it in
the air … yuk! At one point a feather got caught in his whiskers and he was
running in circles trying to catch it with his mouth! Eventually he lost
interest – then Lady Jane had a turn, until she lost interest – and Ziva came
in and ate it! So, once again, I’m picking up feathers!
The other day I decided to bake myself a Leberkäse (a
kind of mashed meatloaf), and heated up the oven. Then, when I wanted to put it
in the oven, I saw that I had forgotten to take the frying pan out of the oven
(I hide it in there, after use, from the cats) – and like a total dunce, I
reached in and picked it up! 190°C! Ouch! Fortunately I dropped it as fast as I
had reached in and picked it up! Then, while the loaf was baking, I applied
After-Sun to my hand! Some say to apply ice, others say lukewarm water, others
recommend butter – but I’ve found that any sunburn treatment works best, as
long as the skin isn’t broken! And since my hand is fine – not a single
blister, and I had a full grip on the handle – I’d say it works just fine!
