I slept quite late this morning, the sun was up by the
time I finally surfaced. So, coffee and off to get my weekly groceries.
Makro was predictable, and then I made the mistake of
going to Food Lovers Market. Big Mistake. Let me record the fun I had, just in
case I’m ever tempted to go there again. First injury courtesy of potatoes.
There were looking good, so I took a bag – and after nearly a minute fiddling
finally got it open. Placed two potatoes in the bag, it tore open at the bottom
and dropped the potatoes on my foot! Ouch! Next I looked at the cheese – having
a hard time trying to find the prices; half their goods have no prices – and I
don’t like being tricked that way. Anyway, engrossed in looking for nice cheese
and trying to discover whether they are priced I banged my head on their
display trolley! They have these mini-trolleys filled with whatever hanging
over the cheese counter – I doubt I’m the first customer to bang their head on
it, and I won’t be the last. The staff just looked on – it’s evidently a
regular occurrence. I, however, could not simply shake it off, since the
headache just kept growing until it turned into a pounding strip of pain from
front to rear – like a Mohawk of pain – by the time I got home.
And the bread on offer? Yeah – nothing for me. It
looked like nothing more than over-sized hamburger buns with a variety of
stuffing’s: bacon, cheese, garlic some even with seeds. So, I had to go to the
Spar after all. I’m not going to risk finding mold growing on my bread again –
the shop knows that it’s not worth the petrol plus time for customers to return
goods, so why bother to take old stock off the shelves. At the Spar, two of us
were looking at milk – patiently waiting for the staff to get done, so we could
reach the shelf – only to find two bottles left on the shelf. One of them
leaked, though, so I put it back … the other customer later noticed whole cases
of milk waiting to be unpacked, and told me; while the staff just watched!
Rant over. Two Grand-Pa’s took care of the pounding
headache.
Took a look at the garden, and that cactus is drooping
so badly, it’s about to break off. So I trimmed as much as I felt was
necessary. That cactus is probably the oldest living survivor on this property,
so I really, really don’t like to hurt it. Then there is also the Hibiscus
encroaching on the Cactus’ living space – and, as beautiful as it is, the
Cactus was there first. At some time, another kind of tree also took root right
next to the cactus and it’s young and strong and shooting new branches also
into the Cactus’ living space; so I had to trim that as well. Then I dug up
some Tecoma which had wandered too far from the fence, my neighbour and I kept
tripping over it when tending our new rockery. And I rounded things off by
expanding the rockery as much as I could – which is very little, I’m afraid.
During my break I inspected the Poinsettia in daylight
and removed more friggin’ parasites. I’m hoping they were left-overs which I
overlooked last time. It sounds like the wind is picking up outside, so I
better put on a jumper for my next stretch in the garden.
Turns out it’s far too windy to work in the garden, so
I trimmed dead flowers and leaves, watered and then frustrated myself trying to
photograph some pretty new flowers – loads of blurry pictures, thank you, wind!
I did get some nice ones, also took a few nice photo’s
of fiery red clouds at sunset – but then I got chatting with some people in the
game fellowship and completely lost track of time; so I’ll update the post with
the photo’s tomorrow morning.
