What a day! I woke up from a dream about writing a
blog called ‘Did you know it’s illegal to …’ On the way to work I gave it some
thought and regretfully decided not to go ahead – as much the information really
needs to get out to a vast number of people calling themselves ‘law-abiding’ (a
certain trespassing contractor and all the cohorts come to mind) – since I
have not studied law, the research alone would too much time to make it viable.
One the way to work driving through the hills
surrounding Uitenhage a magical image rose in front of me: the full moon mere
inches above the sun-kissed hill straight ahead! It was like a scene from a
fairy tale!
Work was pretty standard, except that I developed a
headache which continued to get worse throughout the day. I tried eating,
drinking – sleeping was naturally out of the question, but it just continued to
get worse. By eleven I gave up and took some Paracetamol – which had no effect.
At twelve I was looking forward to lunch – when a colleague asked if I could
pick up another colleague at the airport, as she was swamped with work. So, I
print a sign with his name – since I didn’t know him from Adam – and drove off.
Yep, picking up strange men at airports is part of my job! By the time we got
back to work it was quarter past three – and my head was pounding! So, since I
didn’t get lunch, I left right away; and I was home by four.
As I’m watering my garden, looking at my plants –
mostly flowers at the moment, the headache finally seems to recede a little
bit. The transplanted flowers don’t seem to be doing well – but a lot of them
were upright this morning, so in time, with regular watering, their roots will
grip and grow again.
Our gardener was working for my neighbour today so we
asked him if he recognised those bulb-like roots we found. Unfortunately not,
but we all agree they’re not likely to be weeds. So I’ve re-planted them and we’ll
see what comes up. The yellow flower is now fully open! I’m afraid I don’t
know, yet, what it is.
Two more cosmos opened up today!
Our mystery flower is still teasing us – it looks
bursting to open, but not today!
The Nasturtiums, having been trimmed on the path side
are wandering off into the garden instead!
As I’m talking to my neighbour, her cat went to sit in
front of his television. I’ve been trying to get a photo of him peeking through
his TV, but until recently, he stayed wary of me and always moved away when I
got too close. Isn’t he just adorable?
For dinner I had planned to make Frikadellen – like
meatballs – but with the headache, I opted for simply steaming two potatoes!
Trimmed my chives, add some butter – dinner is served! And with a good meal,
and the headache still pounding, I finally gave in and took an anti histamine
and an anti inflammatory – I’m happy to report I’m finally headache free! But
also rather tired – that’s the meds at work. I’ve packed my lunch, now to
compress the photos, publish this blog, bath … and blissful bed!
A final note: It is incredible that, two nights ago,
same time, I sat in a sleeveless top with the door open for a cooling breeze –
and today I have a blanket wrapped around my legs wearing a warm jersey over a
long sleeve sweater! Plus gloves! And I’m still cold!
