I struggled to go to sleep, it was close to eleven, maybe even past, when I finally fell asleep. Then I woke with a shock, dashing to the bathroom ... that was during load shedding. Nothing wrong, more of a mind thing.
As a result, it was past seven when I finally hauled myself out of bed! And only because Smeagol insisted I get up, get out, and fill his food bowls! He really looks after the mommy and kittens! He never got this aggressive when it was just him ...
Just past nine, laundry is in the machine, dishes are washed.
Half eleven, laundry on the line, litter boxes clean, mippies fountain clean. Internet is STILL low, I'm lucky if I get a minute or two of three bars. Most of the time it's one bar, or no bars.
Just past eleven, and FINALLY internet! Tenant needed airtime ... I can't take a chance when the internet is dodgy.
I'm now working on my budget ... which is really depressing! I've been quite remiss in keeping track of prices ... specifically cat food. Prices have increased in leaps an bounds! Trouble is, of course, that changing brands or type of food is not realistic. I put a lot of time and effort into working out the nutritional value per kg - and since they've ALL increased ... going to a 'cheaper' brand will just result in them eating more. Plus, of course, they LIKE the food ... and don't like change.
I've just spent over three hours on my budget. I meant to order Whiskas, Chocolate and Fruit Juice ... I've just worked my way backwards to see how much I have left for groceries this month ... Start with my current balance, deduct all essentials (rent, insurance, etc.) and I'm left with a pitiful amount! Especially having deducted petrol ... which really, really sucks!
On the other hand, I've also 'deducted' a saving, and if I can stick to that, next month will look better. Now my question: do I do my shopping today or wait until Monday? I think I'll wait until Monday.
Part of my changes is also that I'll be doing certain private tasks at work. I mean, I'm paid for presence, not results nor performance. One of those tasks is my finances - not only budget, but since I've created a system to track prices for everything ... might as well use the same system to reduce my home spending! That, at least, will result in financial reward for myself!
His policy of wasting money rather than lift a finger to avoid waste - and then squeezing money out of his employees? Not cool! It makes my blood boil just thinking about it!
It's weekend, though. Not the right time nor place for boiling blood. So, I'm closing everything and leave it for Monday. It's nearly five already ... I've spent my entire afternoon on my budget! Sigh ...
Okay, so last night I came up with a recipe for a quick meal. It's a fusion (sounds sophisticated, doesn't it - better than 'mix', eh?) between omelet and pancake. Take an egg, add milk, oil, flour, salt & pepper, and fresh parsley - whisk, pour into frying pan. I just tried it, and it's great! Naturally, it has almost no taste, so I added the leftover pasta and sausage with the tomato puree / paste I made. I never did add any mayo, by the way. And with the egg and flour, I was actually able to turn it without scrambling it.
The motivation behind that is, that I don't particularly enjoy pancakes and can't eat omelet - turns out I can't eat too much egg. This worked out quite well! Only, it's not a full meal - the filling will have to do that, next time.
I've also remembered another meal I used to make, back in the 'good ole days', when electricity prices were a tenth of what they are now. I'd put rice and water into a frying pan, put a layer of chicken on top, when the rice is done, so is the chicken! Yes, inspired by Paella ...
Well, since I've realised that my 'slow cooker' is actually a rice cooker ... I'm thinking of giving that a try. It's a quick-to-prepare meal. Something I may even have enough energy for in the middle of the week.
Anyway, twenty to six ... load shedding! Again from 02:00 - 04:30 ... and tomorrow ten to noon and six to eight in the evening, again.
And here's Mewthos! Mewling for me to come outside for roly poly ... might as well ...
